Testimonials:

I am deeply delighted to have worked with Editor Sarah Martinez. With genuine enthusiasm, she plunges into the story and dissects characters and situations and provides valuable suggestions. She has an eye for details. A face-to-face meeting with her to discuss the manuscript has been extremely beneficial. I highly recommend her.

When I was asked to co-author a non-fiction book and given only ten weeks to complete a half-written manuscript, Sarah Martinez came on board as editor and made a seemingly impossible task happen. Without her, deadlines would not have been met, and the book could have turned into the disaster of the century.  This was a complicated story arc that could easily have drifted into shallow trails leaving the reader disappointed and unfulfilled, but Sarah’s keen eye for both the big picture and the details kept the story on track, propelling the reader forward. Sarah commented on the work, chapter by chapter and her daily input never let me down. Throughout the project, Sarah’s feedback was accurate and always couched in considerate and encouraging language that left this writer’s sensitive ego intact.  Cardboard characters came to life, and confusing events were made clear, when Sarah’s discerning suggestions were heeded.  Scenes that lacked emotional effect became memorable.  I can’t imagine writing another book without Sarah’s skilled editorial support.

I recently had the pleasure of working with Sarah on my romantic suspense manuscript.  While Sarah is a very good editor and a pleasure to work with, as a writer, there are two things she does that make her invaluable.  First, she is a big believer in, and advocate of, the writer’s voice.  She doesn’t just point out issues; she poses questions and alternate scenarios that help you think about how you might want to approach the issue, in your own way, in your own voice.  Second, she is a writer’s editor.  After every meeting with her, I always felt more energized to keep working, expand my platform, explore new directions with my writing, etc.  She cares about writers and is committed to helping them not only tell their stories, but get them out there for other people to enjoy, too.

Wild Skies Editorial is one side of the author Sarah Martinez. I am Senior Editor at Pink Fish Press and am a proud member of the NW Independent Editor’s Guild. When I worked as an editorial assistant for Andrea Hurst I learned much about the commercial side of publishing. I worked with authors on projects ranging from women’s fiction, erotic romance, genre fiction, inspirational nonfiction, memoir, and current events. Through Andrea I was able to spend time with other industry professionals to get a sense of today’s publishing landscape and I continue to follow developments and  advise my clients on the best places to send their work.

At Pink Fish Press I edited the memoir Stripping Down by Sheila Hageman and have overseen other projects, promote the Pink Fish brand and assist in acquisition and marketing decisions.

As an author I worked with several editors on my own work and believe that today’s publishing situation offers more than ever the opportunity for authors to find their own unique voice and express this, rather than cater exclusively to the mass market. Working with an individual editor with an eye for self-publishing or small press publication offers many opportunities to stay true to one’s own voice.

My specialty is developmental editing. If substantial line or copy edit is required, I can either refer you or work with professionals I know, guiding the project much as I would at Pink Fish Press.

  • Please no pornography. Erotic writing is often lumped into this category. I am very interested in furthering the work of writers with something original to say and if that includes graphic or original depictions of sex, I would love to take a look at your project. Examples of these would be: Lidia Yuknavitch, Marco Vassi, Marguerite Duras, Jennifer D. Munro, Henry Miller, Nicholson Baker and Kathy Acker to name a few.
